Library › Latin: Letters › Epistola ad Wolfgangum Salet
This brief letter, dated at Zurich on 22 January 1552, is from Heinrich Bullinger (1504–1575), chief minister of the Zurich church, to Wolfgang Salet. Bullinger thanks him for recovering and returning letters that had been lost through others’ carelessness. He says his daily public and private business prevents him from having anything in the press, but sends a booklet he has lately published on Christian perfection, addressed to King Henry II of France, and supposes Salet has already seen his ‘antithesis’. Froschauer is now printing his five Decades in one folio volume, and though it is a second printing he has added, removed and changed nothing.
Bullinger admits that he does not know who Salet is or what his position is, and asks him to say, so that he may know to whom he is writing. The letter, about 140 words, is a small witness to the publication history of Bullinger’s works around 1551–1552, including his address to the French king and the collected edition of the Decades, and to the casual way new correspondents entered his network.
